WDSF and AeroEsport Announce Strategic Cooperation Connecting Drone Sports and Aviation Esports
The new partnership brings together two independent flying disciplines across South Korea and Southeast Asia.
SINGAPORE AND CHEONGJU, SOUTH KOREA — 11 August 2026 — The World Drone Sports Federation (WDSF) and AeroEsport, operated by Singapore-based August Tech, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding establishing strategic cooperation between the two organisations.
WDSF, led by President Woo Hyun-ho, specialises in drone sports and unmanned-flight activities. AeroEsport specialises in aviation esports and aircraft flight-simulation competition.
The organisations will remain independent within their respective disciplines while supporting international awareness, youth engagement and suitable opportunities for future cooperation.
“Drone sports are creating new opportunities in competition, education, technology and future employment. Through this cooperation with AeroEsport, we look forward to strengthening connections between South Korea and Southeast Asia,” said Woo Hyun-ho, President of WDSF.
WDSF’s Upcoming Programmes in South Korea
WDSF will introduce the emerging career pathway of drone basketball referees and instructors at the 2026 Aviation Industry Career Expo, taking place from 2–3 September 2026 at BEXCO in Busan.
WDSF will also present a Drone Basketball Experience and Exhibition Tournament during the Cheongwon Life Festival, held from 2–11 October 2026 at Miraeji Agricultural Theme Park in Cheongju.
Visitors will have the opportunity to experience drone basketball, watch exhibition matches and learn more about competitive unmanned flight.
These programmes demonstrate WDSF’s work in connecting drone sports with public participation, education and future career opportunities.
AeroEsport’s Road to the Championship
AeroEsport is preparing its aircraft flight-simulation competition, Road to the Championship, featuring remote qualification and onsite competitive stages.
The competition includes Junior, Teenager and Advanced divisions.
Finalists are scheduled to be announced on 8 January 2027, leading to the AeroEsport Grand Final Showdown on 13 May 2027.
