Wallenius Wilhelmsen exercise options for two additional 11,700 CEU Shaper vessels and intends to upsize an additional two
Wallenius Wilhelmsen has exercised an option for two additional 11,700 CEU Shaper class vessels from China Merchants Jingling Shipyard Co., Ltd. These two vessels are part of four outstanding options previously announced, with delivery expected in the second half of 2028. As part of the agreement, Wallenius Wilhelmsen will retain the option to declare two more vessels by the second half of 2025.
Additionally, Wallenius Wilhelmsen plans to increase the capacity of two more vessels from 9,300 CEU to 11,700 CEU, bringing the total number of upsized Shaper vessels to eight.
“Exercising our options and upsizing further Shaper class vessels fit seamlessly with Wallenius Wilhelmsen's net-zero ambition. The vessels are prepared for net-zero and future fuels from day one and will reduce fuel consumption and emissions considerably.”
- Xavier Leroi, VP & COO Shipping Services
“With our sight set on a net-zero future for shipping, upsizing and expanding our Shaper class is a step in the right direction toward that goal," Leroi adds.
The cost for the two optional vessels and the upsizing of two vessels on order will be consistent with the previous order for Shaper class vessels.
With today’s announcement, Wallenius Wilhelmsen will have a total of 14 Shaper class vessels on order, including 8 vessels with a capacity of 11,700 CEU and 6 vessels with a capacity of 9,300 CEU.
