The President of Egypt Abdel Fattah el-Sisi meets Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi met with Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi today to review Eni's ongoing operations in Egypt and explore potential areas for further collaboration. Egyptian Oil Minister Karim Badawi and Eni's Global Natural Resources COO Guido Brusco also attended the meeting.
The discussions centered on Eni’s projects in Egypt, focusing on both onshore and offshore initiatives that support natural gas production and the exploration of Eni’s extensive asset portfolio. The importance of Egypt as a key player in establishing a gas hub in the eastern Mediterranean was also emphasized, particularly in light of the country's significant gas processing and LNG export infrastructure.
Additionally, Descalzi highlighted Eni’s commitment to accelerating its energy transition efforts, including reducing methane emissions, enhancing energy efficiency, and expanding into renewable energy.
The meeting also marked the 70th anniversary of Eni’s presence in Egypt, which began in 1954, making it the company’s first venture outside of Italy.
Eni, through its subsidiary IEOC, is Egypt's leading hydrocarbon producer, with an equity production of approximately 318,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2023.
