SLB announces new partnership to expand deployment of subsurface digital technology
Global technology leader SLB has announced a strategic partnership with Shell to roll out its Petrel™ subsurface software across Shell’s global operations. This move aims to enhance digital capabilities and drive greater operational cost efficiency.
“With a shared commitment to innovation—particularly in seismic interpretation for both traditional exploration and production (E&P) and energy transition workflows—this collaboration supports Shell’s digital transformation journey,” said Rakesh Jaggi, President of Digital & Integration at SLB. “We’re focused on advancing digital and AI technologies for subsurface applications, providing our customers with deeper insights and expanded opportunities.”
Shell will leverage Petrel software, integrated with advanced AI capabilities, to enhance seismic interpretation processes. The rollout is expected to unify infrastructure and workflows, accelerate scalable digital adoption, and improve cost efficiency across Shell’s global assets. This initiative also lays the groundwork for integrated geoscience workflows, aimed at deepening subsurface understanding throughout the entire asset lifecycle.
Petrel software aligns with the OSDU® Technical Standard—a global, industry-backed data framework designed for the digital era. SLB has significantly contributed to this standard through major code donations, reinforcing its commitment to open innovation and collaboration.
