SLB and Shearwater Launch Amapá 3D Seismic Survey Offshore Brazil

SLB, a global energy technology company, has launched the Amapá 3D multi-client seismic survey in partnership with Shearwater GeoServices. Located offshore Amapá along northern Brazil’s Equatorial Margin, the project marks one of SLB’s major investments in exploration data for the deepwater Atlantic Margin and will expand high-quality 3D seismic coverage across an underexplored area of the basin.

“The Morpho discovery has brought new attention to exploration offshore Amapá,” said Andrea Lovatini, vice president, Exploration Data and Geosolutions, SLB. “As customers assess opportunities across the area, Amapá 3D will provide a clearer picture of the subsurface to help them evaluate prospectivity and make better-informed investment decisions.”

The survey area is situated approximately 130 kilometers from the Morpho exploration well, where a recent hydrocarbon discovery was announced. The project aims to address key subsurface data gaps, enhance geological understanding and support more accurate prospect evaluation.

The partners will collect high-density broadband seismic data using Shearwater’s Isometrix® marine seismic technology aboard the Amazon Warrior. SLB will process and image the data through advanced workflows, including elastic full-waveform inversion. The resulting dataset is expected to provide valuable regional subsurface insights to support exploration activities and future licensing opportunities across Brazil’s Equatorial Margin.
