Saipem: awarded a contract by Eni for Carbon Capture and Storage in the UK
Saipem has been awarded a contract by Eni for the Liverpool Bay CCS project in the UK, valued at approximately 520 million euros over the three-year duration of the project.
This initiative is designed to support the HyNet industrial cluster, located in one of the UK’s most energy-intensive regions. Saipem’s role will involve converting a traditional Gas Compression and Treatment facility at Point of Ayr in North Wales into an advanced CO2 Electrical Compression Station, enabling permanent CO2 storage in offshore depleted fields beneath Liverpool Bay.
The contract scope covers the Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning support for the new CO2 Electrical Compression Station, which will integrate both offshore and onshore components of the overall development.
The project will create significant local employment, involving over 1,000 workers during the construction phase. Additionally, it will help reduce emissions from industries in Northwest England and North Wales.
By securing this contract, Saipem further strengthens its position in the UK’s advanced Carbon Capture and Storage initiatives and reaffirms its expertise across the entire CO2 value chain.
