Repsol launches intelligent multi-agent platform, consolidating it as a global AI leader in the energy sector
Repsol has introduced its own intelligent agent construction platform, positioning itself as a leader in the application of agent-based artificial intelligence (AI) and multi-agent systems — marking another significant milestone in its digital transformation journey.
Developed in collaboration with Accenture, this innovative pilot project enables the creation and organization of AI agents into structured workflows. These multi-agent systems foster new collaborative work environments, empowering teams to enhance operational models and improve overall productivity.
During the development of this system, Repsol built extensive knowledge bases tailored to support its teams through AI-driven assistance. The company also designed a cutting-edge interface that optimizes language models for professional and collaborative use.
The pilot was implemented within Repsol’s Digitalization and Services division, which comprises over 700 employees. Three teams, operating with 22 AI agents, have been active for more than four months, supporting various key processes. Over 50 professionals have collaborated to supervise and refine these AI teams, generating significant efficiencies and operational improvements.
Susana Meseguer, Repsol’s Executive Managing Director of Digitalization and Services, stated: “With the launch of our multi-agent AI platform, Repsol reaffirms its ambition to lead the energy sector in adopting disruptive and innovative technologies. Since the start of our Digital Program over six years ago, our goal has been to drive efficiency and competitiveness by combining our employees’ talent with the power of digitalization.”
Leading the way in digitalization and generative AI
Repsol’s Digitalization Program, a core component of its Strategic Plan through 2027, has been instrumental in transforming the company across all areas. Leveraging technologies such as artificial intelligence, Repsol continues to strengthen its ability to address the challenges of the energy transition and decarbonization.
Since establishing its Generative AI Competence Center more than two years ago, Repsol has become a pioneer in deploying generative AI within the global energy industry. The company has implemented over 60 use cases—22 of which have been successfully scaled—and trained more than 5,000 employees in generative AI and advanced prompting.
A recent study by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) reveals that 95% of generative AI projects fail to deliver measurable value. In contrast, Repsol has identified key factors behind its success: reimagining workflows, investing in multi-agent systems for complex processes, and maintaining a strong focus on people and collaboration.
