Plenitude expands electric vehicle charging infrastructure in Spain

Plenitude, through its subsidiary Plenitude On The Road, will support the development of the first ultra-fast charging corridor along the AP-9 motorway in the Galicia, Spain. Under an agreement with Autopistas del Atlántico, the company plans to install and operate 42 ultra-fast charging points, each with a capacity of up to 300 kW. These will be distributed across five of the motorway’s seven service areas: O Salnés, Compostela, Ameixeira North and South, and Miño. The charging stations at Ameixeira North and South are expected to be among the first to become operational.

This initiative aims to accelerate the adoption of electric mobility in Galicia by expanding access to high-speed charging infrastructure.

Paolo Martini, Head of e‑Mobility Recharge Solutions at Plenitude and CEO of Plenitude On The Road, said: "We are proud to have signed this agreement, through which we aim to support the expansion of electric mobility along one of Galicia’s main transport routes, offering e‑drivers cutting‑edge charging solutions and high‑quality service. This partnership is fully aligned with Plenitude’s strategy to expand its ultrafast charging network along major motorway corridors, including in other European countries.”

The 220-kilometre Atlantic Motorway (AP-9), operated by Autopistas del Atlántico under a concession from the Ministry of Transport, forms part of the European high-capacity road network (E1). The motorway handles around 115 million journeys annually, with more than one-third concentrated along 37 kilometres of toll-free sections.

The rollout of all charging stations is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, with commissioning at each service area aligned with the approval timelines for permits and licenses from relevant public authorities.

Plenitude On The Road operates as an integrated provider in the electric vehicle charging sector across Spain and other European markets, managing around 23,000 charging points. Its mobile app also enables access to approximately 600,000 charging stations across Europe.

In Spain, Plenitude has reached about 1,700 MW of installed capacity and continues to expand its footprint in the retail energy market, serving around 500,000 customers.

Part of Eni, Plenitude operates in more than 15 countries worldwide, with a business model that combines 5.8 GW of renewable energy generation, energy sales and solutions for 10 million customers, and a broad network of 23,000 electric vehicle charging points.
