PETRONAS Strengthens Global Collaboration on AI Integration Ecosystem and High-Performance Computing to Advance Malaysia’s Upstream Sector
PETRONAS, through Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM), has signed several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) at ADIPEC 2025, reaffirming its dedication to global collaboration and technology-driven innovation.
The MoUs unite leading industry players—including SLB, Beicip-Franlab, ConocoPhillips, Eliis, PTTEP, Microsoft, Shell, and TotalEnergies—to jointly advance seismic imaging and accelerate the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) supported by high-performance computing (HPC).
Senior Vice President of MPM, Datuk Ir. Bacho Pilong, stated, “Strategic partnerships like these are vital to strengthening Malaysia’s upstream sector. By integrating the capabilities of energy operators and technology innovators, we are enhancing our exploration and development performance while laying the groundwork for a more efficient and resilient upstream ecosystem.”
The initiative leverages dynamic modelling and agentic AI to enable real-time data integration, continuous forecasting, and proactive decision-making. These advancements extend beyond subsurface analysis to offshore facility optimisation, particularly through the adoption of Normally Unattended Facilities and Remote Autonomous Operations (NUF-RAO).
These technological enhancements will also support more effective technical assessments and investment decisions. Through such collaborations, MPM continues to reinforce Malaysia’s position as a premier destination for high-value upstream investment.
PETRONAS remains committed to providing a reliable and sustainable energy supply, with MPM serving a key role in managing petroleum arrangements and ensuring strong stewardship of Malaysia’s upstream petroleum activities.
