PETRONAS Powers Vietnam’s Energy Future with its First LNG Cargo Delivery to PetroVietnam Gas

PETRONAS, through its subsidiary PETRONAS LNG Ltd. (PLL), has successfully completed the delivery of its first Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) cargo to PetroVietnam Gas (PV Gas), marking a significant milestone in their partnership.

This delivery marks the beginning of PLL's collaboration with PV Gas, a subsidiary of PETROVIETNAM (PVN), and sets the stage for future cooperation to enhance Vietnam’s energy security and support its energy transition plan toward a more sustainable future.

The collaboration is built on the Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) signed on November 8, 2023, between PETRONAS and PVN, which lays the groundwork for long-term partnership, with LNG supply being a primary focus area.

The LNG cargo was shipped from the PETRONAS LNG Complex in Bintulu, Sarawak, to the Thi Vai LNG Terminal in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, transported aboard Seri Ayu, an LNG vessel chartered from PETRONAS' subsidiary, MISC Berhad (MISC).

Shamsairi Ibrahim, Vice President of LNG Marketing & Trading at PETRONAS, commented, "As the global LNG market continues to evolve, PETRONAS is committed to helping PVN meet Vietnam's growing electricity demand and support its industrial customers. This first LNG delivery is a significant milestone in our partnership, paving the way for even closer collaboration to ensure energy security and contribute to Vietnam’s energy transition."

PETRONAS’ presence in Vietnam began in 1991 when the company became the first international investor in the country's upstream oil and gas sector. Over the years, PETRONAS has expanded its operations in Vietnam, diversifying into key sectors such as oil and gas, petrochemicals, renewable energy, and most recently, LNG.

Looking forward, PETRONAS and PVN will continue to explore new opportunities for LNG collaboration in line with the principles outlined in the MoC, working together to ensure a stable and sustainable energy future for Vietnam and help strengthen its energy landscape.
