Pertamina Supplies Gas to Cilegon Power Plant, Supports Electricity Availability
PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore South East Sumatra (PHE OSES), part of Pertamina's Upstream Subholding Java Regional, commenced natural gas supply to the Gas and Steam Power Plant (PLTGU) in Cilegon on Friday, November 1, 2024. The event, held at PLN Indonesia Power UBP Cilegon, celebrated the opening of the first gas flow valve, symbolizing a collaborative effort to ensure a stable gas supply to support national energy demands.
Starting from November 1, 2024, PHE OSES will deliver gas at a rate of five BBTUD (Billion British Thermal Units per Day), totaling 9,977 BBTU through 2029. This supply will meet electricity requirements in the Cilegon-Banten area, West Java, and nearby regions.
PLTGU Cilegon, the only gas-powered plant in Banten, is essential for the Java-Bali transmission network interconnection. The plant primarily supplies electricity to meet the industrial power needs of Banten.
General Manager of PHE OSES, Antonius Dwi Arinto, emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration in creating national energy resilience. "This partnership is a real manifestation of our commitment to supporting national energy needs through strong collaboration between PHE OSES, SKK Migas, and PLN," Antonius said.
According to Antonius, with synergy between government agencies, domestic energy potential can be optimized to support societal welfare and industrial sustainability. "We hope this collaboration can serve as an example of how a spirit of togetherness can produce significant impacts in supporting the availability of reliable, efficient, and sustainable energy," he added.
Fadjar Djoko Santoso, Vice President of Corporate Communication at PT Pertamina (Persero), stated that Pertamina is actively working to optimize gas usage during the energy transition era. This includes expanding its application across industrial, transportation, and household sectors.
"The utilization of natural gas for the electricity sector aligns with Pertamina’s policy of using gas as a transition energy," Fadjar emphasized.
The opening ceremony was attended by representatives from SKK Migas, the Vice President of Primary Energy Planning & Control II of PLN IP, and other members of PHE OSES management.
As a leader in the energy transition, Pertamina is dedicated to supporting Indonesia's Net Zero Emission 2060 target by advancing programs that contribute directly to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These initiatives are integrated with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles throughout all of Pertamina's business lines and operations.
