Oil Sheens at Shell Energy and Chemicals Park Singapore on Bukom Undergoing Remediation

Oil sheens were observed near a wharf at Shell Energy and Chemicals Park Singapore on Bukom on December 26, 2024.

Shell confirms that oil sheens were detected near a wharf at Shell Energy and Chemicals Park Singapore on Bukom on December 26, 2024. The source is suspected to be one of the oil processing units, which may have released refined oil products into the water. As a precaution, the affected processing unit has been temporarily shut down for investigation. Emergency response specialists have been mobilized to address the situation.

Shell is actively collaborating with the relevant authorities to manage the clean-up efforts. Measures include deploying absorbent and containment booms, applying dispersants in the channel where cooling water is discharged, and activating an in-built oil skimmer system. In partnership with the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), boats have been dispatched to address light oil sheens observed off Pulau Bukom using dispersants and absorbent booms. Drones are also being utilized for surveillance, and no oil patches have been detected near Pulau Bukom at this time.

Shell emphasizes that the health and safety of its people and the environment remain its highest priorities as it works to resolve this issue promptly.
