NYK and NYK Cruises Conduct Crisis-Response Drill on Asuka II
NYK and its subsidiary NYK Cruises Co., Ltd. conducted a crisis-response drill as part of the "Remember Naka-no-Se" safety campaign. The exercise was based on a scenario where the cruise ship Asuka II, owned and operated by NYK, collided with a fictional bulk carrier named Niigata Maru.
NYK President Takaya Soga and NYK Cruises President Hiroyuki Endo took part in the drill, collaborating with external stakeholders such as Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's Maritime Bureau, the 9th Regional Coast Guard Headquarters, and the Japan Shipowners' Association.
(1) The ship notified NYK Cruises of the accident, and a crisis-management headquarters headed by President Endo was immediately set up. Communication channels were established with the parties concerned.
(2) Upon receiving the news, NYK also set up a crisis-management headquarters headed by President Soga to support NYK Cruises' response to the accident.
(3) The companies cooperated with the 9th Regional Coast Guard Headquarters on measures such as securing evacuation routes for the ship's crews and passengers and oil pollution control systems.
(4) The companies drew up press releases as the situation progressed and conducted a mock press conference. (Speakers: Takaya Soga, President of NYK; Hiroyuki Endo, President of NYK Cruises; Katsuhiko Haruna, Senior Managing Executive Officer)
