PETRONAS Harnesses AI for Data-Driven Investor Decisions in Malaysia's E&P Sector

PETRONAS, through Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM), has partnered with Earth Science Analytics (ESA) and Amazon Web Services (AWS) to harness advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) technologies to accelerate exploration efforts in the Malay Basin and enhance the data capabilities of PETRONAS' myPROdata platform. This web-based platform provides subscribers with access to Malaysia's exploration and production (E&P) data.

MPM will collaborate with ESA to develop AI-driven subsurface workflows using ESA’s EarthNET platform in conjunction with PETRONAS myPROdata. This initiative aims to enhance subsurface data analytics and interpretation, optimizing hydrocarbon exploration in the mature Malay Basin, offshore Peninsular Malaysia.

The partnership with AWS will focus on enhancing the myPROdata platform by integrating advanced AI and data analytics tools. AWS will help implement AI and ML functionalities to improve the platform's user experience and streamline data management processes. This integration will significantly boost the operational capabilities of the myPROdata platform, enabling potential investors to make more informed, data-driven decisions in Malaysia’s E&P sector.

Senior Vice President of MPM, Datuk Ir. Bacho Pilong said, "These collaborations are pivotal in reinforcing PETRONAS' commitment to innovation as we gear up for Malaysia Bid Round (MBR) 2025. By leveraging advanced AI and ML capabilities, we aim to empower our investors and Petroleum Arrangement Contractors (PACs) with richer data insights and more streamlined processes, driving smarter decision-making and ensuring a more efficient, impactful bid round for all participants."

The Malaysia Bid Round (MBR) is an annual licensing round that presents various upstream opportunities to potential investors, including exploration acreages, Discovered Resource Opportunities, and late-life producing assets across Malaysia. The next MBR 2025 is scheduled to take place in early 2025 in Kuala Lumpur.

PETRONAS is dedicated to ensuring the optimal and sustainable supply of oil and gas to support the nation’s energy security. At the same time, the company is making deliberate efforts to achieve low-carbon and low-emission operations, aligned with its goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050.
