Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team Visits PETRONAS Twin Towers for the Company's 50th Anniversary Celebration
Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team Principal Toto Wolff, along with drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, recently visited the PETRONAS Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur as part of PETRONAS’ 50th anniversary celebrations. Wolff, who was in Malaysia ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix, reunited with 43 former interns of the PETRONAS and Mercedes internship program. This six-month program, running since 2011, brings talented young Malaysians to the team’s UK headquarters.
During a panel discussion, Wolff was joined by three former interns, including a 2013 graduate now holding a management position at PETRONAS and two recent graduates who completed their internship in July. Wolff praised the program for its unique structure and the opportunities it provides to participants to explore various fields within the fast-paced Formula One environment.
The next batch of interns will head to Brackley, UK, in January 2024, with applications currently open. Wolff encouraged the incoming cohort to look up to past participants as role models for their own careers.
Additionally, Wolff met with senior PETRONAS leadership to discuss sustainability and innovations, reaffirming the long-standing collaboration between Mercedes and PETRONAS, which began in 2010. The partnership has been successful both on and off the track, driven by shared values of innovation and technology.
Hamilton and Russell later participated in a Q&A session with 900 PETRONAS employees at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS, where they reflected on the strong partnership between Mercedes and PETRONAS. Hamilton expressed his gratitude for the support PETRONAS has provided throughout his career, while Russell acknowledged the integral role PETRONAS plays in the success of the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team.
During their visit, Wolff, Hamilton, and Russell were given a tour of the PETRONAS Upstream Experience Centre and Galeri PETRONAS, which featured exhibits on the company's growth and Formula One achievements, including a Formula One car and Grand Prix trophies. Hamilton also participated in a special session on diversity and inclusion.
PETRONAS Senior General Manager of Strategic Communications, Siti Azlina Abd Latif, expressed delight in celebrating the milestone with the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team and emphasized their continued commitment to innovation and the energy transition journey. Wolff highlighted the 15-year partnership’s success, attributing their achievements to the technical and marketing support from PETRONAS.
