McDermott Delivers First Subsea Project for TotalEnergies in Angola

McDermott has announced the safe and successful completion of engineering, procurement, construction, installation, pre-commissioning, and commissioning activities for TotalEnergies’ Begonia field development. Situated in Block 17/06, about 150 kilometers off the coast of Angola, Begonia represents McDermott’s first subsea project in the country.

The project, awarded in 2022, was executed under McDermott’s integrated delivery model, leveraging its global engineering and procurement expertise, expanding onshore fabrication facilities in Luanda, and offshore installation supported by its versatile marine fleet. McDermott’s Amazon vessel installed more than 40 kilometers of rigid pipelines, while the North Ocean 102 completed the subsea umbilical installation.

“This achievement highlights the strength of our end-to-end subsea capabilities, seamlessly executed from engineering through offshore installation,” said Mahesh Swaminathan, Senior Vice President of Subsea and Floating Facilities at McDermott. “It underscores the strategic value of the Amazon to our operations, particularly in regions where deepwater infrastructure is key to advancing energy security. This success also demonstrates the depth of our collaboration with TotalEnergies, the dedication of our local teams and partners in Angola, and the importance of West Africa within our global portfolio.”

The Begonia development includes five subsea wells tied back to the existing Pazflor floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel in Block 17. First oil was achieved in July this year, with the new infrastructure expected to boost Pazflor’s production capacity by approximately 30,000 barrels of oil per day.
