Maersk to launch its new ocean network

On February 1, Maersk A/S, a subsidiary of A.P. Moller - Maersk, and Hapag-Lloyd AG officially launched their operational collaboration, Gemini Cooperation. This partnership aims to establish a highly flexible and interconnected ocean network, targeting industry-leading schedule reliability of over 90% once fully implemented.

Approximately 340 vessels will gradually be integrated into the joint network, with initial sailings commencing on February 1. The transition period, during which vessels will be phased into the new network while exiting existing agreements with other carriers, is expected to continue until late May. By June, all vessels will operate exclusively under Gemini schedules, marking the network’s full implementation.

We are now ready to commence the phase-in of the new network. Over the last year, we have carefully planned this to ensure that all our customers experience a smooth transition into the new network. With its innovative design, we believe our customers will benefit from increased reliability, flexibility and more competitive products.
- Johan Sigsgaard, Chief Product Officer of Ocean at Maersk

The shared network between Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd focuses on East/West trade routes and will feature 29 streamlined mainline services, complemented by 28 agile intraregional shuttle services for enhanced connectivity.

Ahead of the launch, Maersk hosted a media briefing on January 27, 2025, to provide insights into the new network and its anticipated benefits.
