Maersk Opens Its Largest Distribution Centre in the Philippines, Anchoring Customer Supply Chain in Crucial Transport Corridor

Maersk, through Maersk Contract Logistics in the Philippines, has inaugurated its largest distribution center in the country, the 10-hectare Maersk Optimus Distribution Center in Calamba, Laguna. The inauguration was attended by His Excellency Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and the Honorable Cristina A. Roque, Secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry.

President Marcos highlighted the critical role logistics plays in daily life and the economy, recognizing the Maersk Optimus facility’s significant contribution to enhancing import and export activities in Southern Luzon, particularly in the Bicol and CALABARZON regions. The Maersk Optimus Distribution Center serves as the company’s flagship warehouse in the Philippines.

"With the grand opening of the Maersk Optimus Distribution Center, our logistics system will be a step closer to become a powerful force — bridging our islands, breathing life into our industries and our businesses, and bringing together our people on a path towards sustained development."
- Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. President, Republic of the Philippines

President Marcos also encourages continued investment and development in the logistics sector for a more competitive industry.

"Let this day reaffirm our commitment to constructing a Bagong Pilipinas (New Philippines), where we work hand-in-hand to ensure that prosperity flows into every corner of our archipelago."
- Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. President, Republic of the Philippines

The Maersk Optimus Distribution Center is the largest Maersk facility in the Philippines, with a storage capacity of 76,000 pallets. Serving as the transportation hub for southern Luzon, it features 75 docks and is equipped with a Fleet Operational Control Centre (FOCC), enabling efficient management of its trucking fleet and maximizing operational efficiency. The facility aims to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification, incorporating technologies that enhance energy efficiency, water conservation, and waste reduction.

"Maersk’s largest facility in the Philippines represents the fruition of our organisational aspiration to consistently deliver best-in-class logistics services and stay attuned to the evolving needs of our customers. Maersk Optimus’ strategic location, outfitted with leading-edge technology, enhances supply chain planning and efficiency, benefiting our customers as they bring their goods to local consumers."
- SP Tan, Head of Maersk Contract Logistics Philippines

The Maersk Optimus Distribution Center will also integrate key warehouse operations and co-packing activities to serve major industry sectors, including consumer goods, food and beverage, leisure/lifestyle, healthcare, technology, automotive, and retail. Currently, three of Maersk's existing fast-moving consumer goods customers are among the first to utilize the facility.

"I am delighted to witness the grand opening of Maersk’s Optimus Distribution Center. By facilitating increased domestic consumption and decongesting Metro Manila, it will boost the economic dynamism of Calabarzon and Southern Luzon. This investment is a significant step towards streamlining operations, reducing logistics costs, and strengthening the Philippines’ competitiveness."
- Cristina A. Roque, Secretary, Department of Trade and Industry

Maersk has been actively contributing to the development of effective supply chains in the Philippines. The company operates Philippine-flagged vessels for domestic trade, manages nearly 100 warehouses across the country, and offers air freight and trucking services throughout the Philippines.
