Maersk boosts Asia Pacific logistics footprint with new fully automated global and regional distribution centre in Singapore

A.P. Moller - Maersk has officially launched a new 1.1 million square foot, fully automated global and regional distribution centre in Singapore, known as World Gateway II. This development marks a significant expansion of its contract logistics and e-commerce capabilities across the Asia Pacific region.

Backed by support from the Government of Singapore, the facility is built to meet rising demand from companies that use Singapore as a key regional or global distribution hub, thanks to its strategic location and strong logistics ecosystem. The centre supports both B2B and B2C e-commerce fulfilment throughout Asia Pacific, handling a diverse range of products across sectors such as lifestyle, FMCG, retail, wellness, and technology.

By leveraging Singapore’s connectivity and geographic advantage, the facility enables efficient international cargo distribution. It is strategically located near major transport hubs, including Tuas Port and Changi Airport, and sits close to Maersk’s existing World Gateway distribution centre, which spans 1.0 million square feet.

The launch of World Gateway II reflects the importance of Singapore to our global network and the immense opportunities we see in Asia. Underpinned by continued export strength and increasing consumption, Asia’s growth trajectory remains extraordinary. This new facility is yet another milestone of our fast-growing integrated logistics business in the region, and how we support customers with more resilience and flexibility.

Advanced automation to drive efficiency and scale

The warehouse features advanced automation technologies, including a Multi-Shuttle System, an Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS), and Autonomous Case-handling Robots (ACR). Together, these solutions enhance operational efficiency by enabling faster order fulfilment, reducing lead times, and improving accuracy through minimal manual intervention.

Doubling our warehousing footprint in Singapore is a bold step forward and a strong vote of confidence in this market and our customers. It reflects our commitment to growth and strengthening our regional leadership in contract logistics. The combination of scale and advanced automation positions us to unlock new opportunities, particularly in high-value verticals like luxury fashion, while delivering consistent efficiency at scale.
- Chang Kee Seng, Head of Maersk Contract Logistics Asia Pacific

A.P. Moller - Maersk has invested over S$200 million in the development of World Gateway II, which has already achieved approximately 70% occupancy. Once fully operational, the facility is expected to create around 500 jobs, supported by advanced digital systems and automation technologies.

We welcome this investment by Maersk, a long-standing partner of Singapore, which will create jobs in digitalisation and automation while boosting the capabilities of our logistics workforce.
