Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd announce two ocean network options with equal industry-leading schedule reliability
Maersk A/S, a subsidiary of A.P. Moller – Maersk, and Hapag-Lloyd AG have announced the launch of their operational partnership, Gemini Cooperation. This collaboration aims to create a flexible and interconnected ocean network with a target schedule reliability exceeding 90% once fully implemented.
Since announcing this long-term partnership in January 2024, both companies have been finalizing the specifics of their operational collaboration, focusing on a joint ocean freight network for East-West trades.
As the launch date approaches in five months, Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd are now sharing updates on the finalized service maps and the evolution of the network since the January announcement. They are also introducing an alternative network routing through the Cape of Good Hope due to ongoing disruptions in the Red Sea.
“Reliability, connectivity, and sustainability are the core principles of the networks we are presenting today. We are pleased to provide our customers with full transparency on how we plan to deliver a best-in-class ocean network, allowing them to start planning despite the dynamic circumstances,” said Rolf Habben Jansen, CEO of Hapag-Lloyd.
In October 2024, the Gemini Cooperation will reveal which network is expected to be operational by February 2025. “We eagerly anticipate the launch of our redesigned network next year and are happy to confirm that our target for schedule reliability remains unchanged, regardless of the network we phase in. We believe our collaboration will elevate reliability standards for the benefit of our customers and establish a new benchmark in the industry,” stated Vincent Clerc, CEO of Maersk.
Depending on the network implemented, the new collaboration will feature either 27 or 29 efficient ocean mainliner services, supported by a network of 30 agile, intraregional shuttle services, utilizing a fleet of 300 to 340 vessels.
