Leading the Energy Transition, Pertamina - Arizona State University Collaborate to Prepare Renewable Energy Leaders

PT Pertamina (Persero) is reinforcing its commitment to achieving Net Zero Emissions (NZE) by 2060 by developing its human resources through the NRE (New and Renewable Energy) Academy program. This initiative is in collaboration with the Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University, which has become a hub for eco-friendly energy projects.

Pertamina's HR Director, M. Erry Sugiharto, emphasized that the NRE Academy empowers Pertamina employees, known as Perwira, to gain expertise in renewable energy projects across Indonesia. The program is designed to expand employees' knowledge and equip them to provide innovative solutions to address the country’s energy challenges.

"As the leader in the national energy transition, Pertamina views human resources as crucial to ensuring the success of its commitment to energy transition," Erry said.

He further explained that the NRE Academy will improve Pertamina employees' skills in new and renewable energy sectors, including technology development and business opportunities, thereby strengthening the company’s low-carbon initiatives. The program is hands-on, allowing employees to engage directly with experts like Gary Dirks, Senior Director of the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Futures Laboratory, Nathan Johnson, Director of LightWorks®, and Professor Allen Morrison from the Thunderbird School of Global Management, who facilitates experiential learning.

Fadjar Djoko Santoso, Pertamina's Vice President of Corporate Communication, noted that the collaboration with the Thunderbird School of Global Management is pivotal in developing Pertamina employees’ potential. Arizona is becoming a center for the green economy, with various projects involving hydropower, wind, solar, nuclear, and hydrogen energy.

"Through this partnership, the NRE Academy offers Pertamina employees the opportunity to innovate in fields such as blue ammonia, sustainable aviation fuel, hydrogen blending, and other promising projects for Indonesia’s development," Fadjar said.

As a leading company in energy transition, Pertamina is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target through initiatives that align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These efforts are in line with the company’s focus on Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) principles across its operations and business lines.
