Intertek strengthens solar assurance leadership with purchase of Mitsui Chemicals solar laboratory assets in India
Intertek Group plc (“Intertek”), a global leader in Total Quality Assurance services, has acquired the assets of a state-of-the-art solar PV laboratory in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, from Mitsui Chemicals India Pvt. Ltd., a major international chemical manufacturer.
Solar photovoltaic (PV) energy is the fastest-growing renewable energy source worldwide, with India playing a central role in this transition. As the Government of India targets 500 GW of non-fossil fuel power capacity by 2030—including 280 GW from solar—the need for reliable, independent quality assurance solutions continues to rise.
The newly acquired Intertek solar PV laboratory will deliver comprehensive ISO 17025-accredited testing services for solar installations, materials, and components, along with BIS and IECEE CB Scheme certifications. These capabilities will support both domestic manufacturers and international companies entering the Indian market by improving efficiency through standardized testing and enabling faster, more dependable global market access.
This acquisition complements Intertek’s risk-based Quality Assurance services for the solar PV sector, strengthening its presence in Western India and reinforcing its leadership in renewable energy assurance. It also enhances Intertek CEA’s globally recognized end-to-end solar solutions, which include services such as aerial drone inspections and solar plant evaluations for manufacturers, developers, and other industry stakeholders.
André Lacroix, Chief Executive Officer of Intertek, said: “Solar is a major driver of the energy transition and India is one of the world’s leading solar energy producers2, making it a highly attractive market for our industry-leading ATIC solutions. We look forward to seizing the exciting opportunities to accelerate growth and contribute long-term to India’s electrification journey.”
