HGT invests in 14 hybrid straddle carriers for CNMP LH
Hanseatic Global Terminals (HGT), Compagnie Nouvelle de Manutentions Portuaires Le Havre (CNMP LH), and Kalmar have signed an agreement for the delivery of 14 Kalmar hybrid straddle carriers to CNMP LH at the Port of Le Havre, located on France’s northern coast. Delivery is scheduled for the second quarter of 2026.
As one of Europe’s top 10 busiest ports, Le Havre serves as a vital gateway for maritime trade to and from France. The CNMP LH terminal handles an annual throughput of 400,000 TEUs and benefits from excellent hinterland connections to Paris, including rail links. In March 2025, Hanseatic Global Terminals acquired a 60% stake in CNMP LH. The newly ordered hybrid straddle carriers will be the first of their kind at the terminal, contributing significantly to reduced local emissions, lower fuel consumption, and decreased noise pollution—while also enhancing the working environment for operators.
Dheeraj Bhatia, CEO of Hanseatic Global Terminals, stated:
“As we strengthen our footprint in France, we remain focused on modernizing operations with advanced equipment and vessels. This order, following our recent majority acquisition of CNMP LH, marks a key step in optimizing terminal operations and preparing for increased capacity and throughput. Our expansion strategy includes targeted investments to drive greater efficiency across our terminal network.”
Damien Cols, Director of Global Customers at Kalmar, commented:
“Our four-decade partnership with CNMP LH is built on mutual trust and long-term collaboration. We are proud that Hanseatic Global Terminals has selected our proven, eco-efficient hybrid straddle carrier technology to support their operational vision and strengthen CNMP LH’s competitiveness in the French port sector.”
This investment reflects HGT’s broader strategic goal of growing its terminal portfolio to over 30 sites by 2030, with terminal infrastructure development as a key pillar of that vision.
