Halliburton and Nabors bring drilling automation to the forefront in the Middle East
Halliburton and Nabors Industries have successfully completed the first fully automated surface and subsurface execution of rotary and slide drilling operations in Oman. This achievement marks a significant milestone in the integration of their digital solutions, providing land-based, closed-loop drilling systems that enhance operational efficiency, consistency, and real-time decision-making.
The use of Halliburton’s LOGIX™ automation and remote operations solutions, combined with Nabors’ SmartROS® rig operating system, allowed for seamless orchestration of drilling parameters, real-time data analytics, integrated experience management, and remote control of operations. This collaboration sets a new standard for automation in drilling operations.
"We delivered operational efficiency, consistency, and reliability. The wells were delivered ahead of plan with a higher average rate of penetration and lower non-productive time. This milestone demonstrates our leadership in drilling automation."
- Steve Haden, senior vice president, Project Management, Halliburton
“The success we’ve achieved in Oman highlights the strength of our collaboration as we work together to advance automation across the industry, enhancing both safety and efficiency. This is just the start, and we are eager to continue pushing the limits of innovation to realize fully autonomous drilling,” said Subodh Saxena, Senior Vice President of Canrig and Nabors Drilling Solutions.
This partnership between Halliburton and Nabors in the Middle East has resulted in optimized drilling performance and a reduction in well construction time.
