Go Global: Innovators from Kilang Pertamina Internasional Sweep Awards at Taiwan Innotech Expo 2024
PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI), a subsidiary of Pertamina focused on refining and petrochemicals, is making strides internationally and recently received multiple awards at the 2024 Taiwan Innotech Expo. This renowned event attracted participation from more than 431 companies and research organizations across 20 countries. Out of the 1,140 advanced technologies showcased, KPI's innovations from its Balikpapan and Dumai refineries stood out, earning high honors and capturing global attention.
This year, the Balikpapan Refinery was awarded one of the highest honors, the “Gold Medal,” for its innovation, “Alternative FOAM Concentrate for Fire Fighting Training and Fire Facilities Performance Test.” This high-quality concentrate plays a key role in enhancing KPI's preparedness for fire emergencies. Alongside the “Gold Medal,” this innovation also received the “Korea Invention Promotion Association Special Award” from Korea.
The Balikpapan Refinery also earned the “Silver Medal” for another innovation titled “Utilizing Vacuum Column Intermediate Product, Paraffinic Oil Distillate (POD), as Automotive Diesel Oil (Diesel Fuel) Component.” This innovation incorporates Paraffinic Oil Distillate (POD) as a diesel fuel component, providing improved stability and cleaner combustion with fewer contaminants, leading to lower emissions. Additionally, it was recognized with the “National Research Council of Thailand Special Award.”
Meanwhile, the Dumai Refinery was awarded a “Silver Medal” for its innovation, “Realizing PT KPI’s Profitability & Sustainability Strategy related to Crude Intake & Selection Through Operation Model Engineering and Super Heavy Crude Management in Refinery Dumai.” Through this process, Dumai Refinery added value worth USD 265 million by developing Low Sulphur Marine Fuel Oil through advanced engineering and feedstock management. This achievement also earned the refinery the “World Invention Intellectual Property Association Special Award” from Taiwan.
The Director of Human Resources & Business Support of KPI, Tenny Elfrida, stated before competing on the global stage, KPI’s innovators underwent a rigorous selection process at both the corporate and national levels. “A culture of continuous learning is fundamental at KPI to support the company’s profitability and sustainability. In the future, KPI will continue to support innovation implementation in refinery operating units,” Tenny emphasized.
The innovations were developed by specialized teams from each refinery: “FT PROVE PERFOAMANCE” from the Balikpapan Refinery, “PC PROVE MINION” from the Dumai Refinery, and “PC PROVE JEKPOD” from the Balikpapan Refinery.
In a related statement, PT Pertamina (Persero)’s Vice President of Corporate Communication, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, emphasized that Pertamina actively promotes innovation and business advancements across all sectors to address future challenges.
“These awards reflect recognition of Pertamina’s business innovations and certainly provide motivation to foster further innovations,” Fadjar concluded.
