Eni increases gas volumes for power generation in Côte d'Ivoire

Eni and Petroci have announced a substantial increase in gas supply to support Côte d'Ivoire’s power generation system. Phase 2 of the Baleine project, launched on schedule in December 2024 with full safety measures, marks a significant step in strengthening the country’s energy sector and industrial growth while improving access to reliable energy.

The project will supply up to 70 million cubic feet of gas per day, fully dedicated to meeting local energy demand. This ensures a stable and secure power supply while reinforcing Côte d'Ivoire’s position as a regional energy hub. This achievement has been made possible through close collaboration with Ivorian authorities and Petroci, leveraging Eni’s integrated approach to responsible production with a positive impact on local communities.

Additionally, Eni has reached its oil production plateau of 60,000 barrels per day, tripling output from the 20,000 barrels produced in the previous phase.

Baleine is Africa’s first net-zero upstream project (Scope 1 and 2), achieved through advanced carbon reduction technologies and innovative sustainability initiatives in partnership with the Ivorian government. These include a distribution program for locally produced improved cookstoves—benefiting over 600,000 vulnerable individuals—and a large-scale forest protection and restoration project covering 14 classified forests, supporting the project's carbon neutrality.

With Phase 1 completed in August 2023, Phase 2 operational as of December 2024, and Phase 3 under development, total production is expected to reach 150,000 barrels of oil per day and 200 million cubic feet of associated gas.

Eni, active in Côte d'Ivoire since 2015, remains committed to energy production and sustainable development through initiatives in education, training, healthcare, and economic diversification, aligning with the country’s national development objectives.
