Eni announces the Hull Launch of the Coral North FLNG
In the presence of Mozambique’s Minister of Natural Resources, Estevão Pale, and Eni’s Chief Operating Officer for Global Natural Resources, Guido Brusco, Eni and its partners—China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), ENH, KOGAS, and XRG—announced the successful hull launch of the Coral North FLNG in Geoje, South Korea. The milestone was achieved in line with the project schedule. Coral North will become the second advanced floating LNG facility deployed in the Rovuma Basin, offshore Cabo Delgado in northern Mozambique, and will develop gas resources from the northern section of the Coral gas field.

Building on the experience gained since Coral South began operations in 2022, Coral North has been engineered to deliver improved efficiency and optimized performance, helping to reduce costs and execution risks. The project remains on track for completion in 2028.
With a liquefaction capacity of 3.6 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), Coral North will double Mozambique’s total LNG production to 7 MTPA, positioning the country as Africa’s third-largest LNG producer and exporter and reinforcing its role in the global energy market.
The project is expected to more than double its economic impact on Mozambique, generating increased LNG revenues, supporting local industry growth, creating new employment opportunities, and expanding investments in community development initiatives.
Eni has operated in Mozambique since 2006 and between 2011 and 2014 discovered significant natural gas resources in the Rovuma Basin, including the Coral, Mamba Complex, and Agulha reservoirs, with an estimated 2,400 billion cubic meters of gas in place. Coral South, the first project to bring Rovuma Basin gas into production, has already delivered more than 135 LNG cargoes to global markets. Beyond energy production, Eni continues to support Mozambique’s economic diversification and social development through initiatives focused on education, healthcare, and access to water under its comprehensive sustainability program.
