Eni and SERI Industrial: an agreement for the industrial development of the battery sector

Eni and SERI Industrial, a company focused on energy storage, have established an agreement to potentially develop an industrial chain for lithium-iron-phosphate electrochemical batteries used in energy storage systems (ESS) and electric mobility for commercial and industrial applications.

This agreement will allow the two companies to explore the formation of a joint venture aimed at constructing a stationary energy storage production facility at Eni’s site in Brindisi. This facility will include a production line for active materials and a battery recycling line, supporting a similar plant being developed by FIB, a subsidiary of SERI Industrial, in the Caserta province.

Research and development, procurement, and commercial activities will be coordinated with SERI Industrial's facility in the Caserta region.

This initiative represents a significant step towards industrial growth, especially in southern Italy, aligning with a sustainable energy system that leverages SERI Industrial's battery expertise and Eni's capability to promote decarbonization technologies.

Stationary batteries are crucial for stabilizing the electricity grid, addressing the inherent challenges of renewable energy's intermittency and programmability, thereby facilitating their wider adoption.

Once all conditions are verified and agreed upon, the arrangement could evolve into binding agreements, enhancing SERI Industrial's position in the battery value chain and allowing Eni to initiate new industrial transformation efforts in support of the energy transition.
