CNOOC starts production at Dongfang 29-1 gas field development project

CNOOC has starts production at the Dongfang 29-1 gas field development project in China's South Sea, marking a significant step towards boosting domestic energy output.

As an entirely self-owned and operated venture by CNOOC, this project is poised to strengthen mainland China's overall energy portfolio. Situated within the Yinggehai basin, which boasts a moderate water depth of approximately six meters on average, the field holds strategic importance for regional exploration efforts.

The platform boasts a cutting-edge unmanned wellhead system and submarine pipeline infrastructure, with plans to bring six new development wells online.

Employing a streamlined design approach, the integrated layout of its equipment has yielded substantial cost savings while cleverly utilising available space for maximum efficiency.

Produced oil and gas from the newly discovered field will be transported to Dongfang's processing facilities via a submarine pipeline for further refinement.

The Dongfang 29-1 well is projected to reach its maximum production capacity of 38 million cubic feet per day this year, marking a significant milestone in the region's energy output.

CNOOC's ongoing efforts in the Yinggehai-Qiongdongnan basin are focused on unlocking its full resource potential to drive future growth. By capitalizing on existing infrastructure, CNOOC aims to streamline new project development and optimize investment returns through reduced costs.

The commissioning of the Dongfang 29-1 facility is poised to boost production in the existing Dongfang gas fields, thereby augmenting their overall output capacity.

As these offshore reserves near Hainan Island remain operational, they will continue to serve as a vital source of clean and sustainable energy for the surrounding area.

The activation of the Jinzhou 23-2 oil field development project by CNOOC has marked a significant milestone, enhancing regional energy security and supplementing fuel supplies in the Beijing-Tianjin- Hebei area.

Projected to reach an optimal production capacity of approximately 17,000 barrels per day upon stabilization. 2027.

The Dongfang 29-1 gas field development project has entered production, marking a significant milestone in the offshore energy sector following an announcement by CNOOC and its partner Offshore Technology through GlobalData's online platform.
