chevron starts oil production from ballymore project in gulf of america

Chevron Corporation has commenced oil and natural gas production from its Ballymore subsea tieback development in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. This marks another significant milestone in the company’s plan to reach 300,000 net barrels of oil equivalent per day from the region by 2026. Ballymore is expected to deliver up to 75,000 gross barrels of oil per day through three wells connected via a three-mile subsea tieback to the existing Chevron-operated Blind Faith platform.

“Ballymore showcases how we are utilizing advanced technology and enhancing efficiency to produce affordable and reliable energy from the deepwater Gulf—one of the world’s lowest carbon intensity oil and gas basins,” said Brent Gros, vice president of Chevron Gulf of Mexico. “This project was completed on schedule and within budget, adding production capacity without the need for a new offshore platform. That translates to lower development costs and improved returns for our shareholders.”

Chevron is a key leaseholder in the Gulf of Mexico and remains committed to growing its presence in the basin. Since mid-2024, the company has brought online production from its industry-first Anchor project and the non-operated Whale project, and has begun water injection activities at its operated Tahiti and Jack/St. Malo facilities to enhance output.

The Ballymore field, located in the Mississippi Canyon area about 160 miles (260 km) southeast of New Orleans in approximately 6,600 feet (2,000 meters) of water, holds an estimated 150 million barrels of oil equivalent in potentially recoverable resources over its lifespan. It also marks Chevron’s first development in the Norphlet trend of the Gulf.

Chevron U.S.A. Inc., a subsidiary of Chevron Corporation, operates the Ballymore project with a 60% working interest, while TotalEnergies E&P USA, Inc. holds the remaining 40%.
