CB&I Awarded Contract by Saipem Clough JV for Ammonia, Other Process Tanks for Perdaman Chemicals and Fertilisers in Western Australia
CB&I, a wholly owned unrestricted subsidiary of McDermott, has secured a substantial lump sum contract from the Saipem Clough joint venture for engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of ammonia storage and various process tanks for the Perdaman Chemicals and Fertilisers Urea Plant, located on the Burrup Peninsula in Western Australia.
The project includes EPC services for a 10,000MT full containment ammonia storage tank, along with associated piping to grade, and ten API650 storage tanks. The project will be managed from CB&I's Perth office, with engineering, fabrication, and tank construction support provided by CB&I’s offices in Plainfield, Illinois (USA), and Thailand.
Mark Butts, Senior Vice President of CB&I, commented, "CB&I’s selection demonstrates our leadership in ammonia storage tank construction. We will utilize our extensive experience in Australia to enhance our regional portfolio."
Construction activities are expected to begin in the first quarter of 2025, with project completion targeted for 2028.
The Perdaman Chemicals and Fertilisers facility will be the world’s largest gas stream ammonia-urea plant. The Burrup Peninsula is located approximately eight kilometers from Dampier and 20 kilometers northwest of Karratha on Western Australia's northwest coast.
CB&I defines a sizeable contract as valued between USD $10 million and $50 million.
