bpTT announces Mento first gas
bp Trinidad and Tobago (bpTT) announced today the safe delivery of first gas from the Mento development, achieved through the connection of the initial discovery well. The drilling campaign for the remaining seven gross wells on the platform is now set to commence.
Mento is a 50/50 joint venture between EOG Resources Trinidad Ltd (EOG) and bp Trinidad and Tobago (bpTT), with EOG serving as the operator. The development includes a 12-slot, attended platform located in jointly licensed acreage off the southeast coast of Trinidad.
Mento is part of bp’s portfolio of 10 major global projects slated to come online between 2025 and 2027, as announced earlier this year. These projects are key to bp’s strategy to expand its upstream business. Production from Mento will contribute significantly to the expected combined peak net output of 250,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boed) from the 10 developments.
The Mento platform was constructed at the TOFCO fabrication yard in La Brea, Trinidad.
bpTT president David Campbell stated, “I’m proud to announce first gas from Mento alongside our partner, EOG Resources Trinidad Ltd. This marks our second startup this year and demonstrates the value of collaboration in bringing essential gas supplies into production. Our partnership with EOG is progressing strongly, and we’re continuing our work together on our next joint venture project, Coconut.”
