bp starts up Atlantis Major Facility Expansion project in Gulf of America

bp has successfully started production from its Atlantis Major Facility Expansion project in the US Gulf of America.

Located approximately 150 miles south of New Orleans, the Atlantis field has been producing for nearly two decades. The expansion introduces two new subsea water injection wells designed to boost reservoir pressure, enhance oil recovery, unlock additional reserves, and extend the operational life of one of bp’s key offshore assets in the US.

“Atlantis has been one of the anchors of our Gulf business for nearly two decades, and this expansion proves there is still more value to be generated,” said Andy Krieger, senior vice president for the Gulf of America and Canada. “We're extending the life of a great asset while supporting jobs and investment in the region — all while making the most of infrastructure that's already in place.”

Completed ahead of schedule and below budget, the project is expected to add around 10,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d) in gross peak annualized production, with approximately 5,000 boe/d attributable to bp.

The milestone supports bp’s broader growth strategy in the US Gulf of America, where the company has also approved the Kaskida and Tiber developments. Together, these two offshore production platforms are projected to contribute an additional 160,000 barrels of oil per day in production capacity by the end of 2030.
