Baker Hughes to Provide Fully Integrated Completions for Petrobras’ Offshore Fields
Baker Hughes, a leading energy technology company, announced on Thursday that it has secured a major multi-year fully integrated completions systems contract with Petrobras. The contract, awarded through an open tender, will leverage Baker Hughes’ advanced completions technology portfolio and extensive experience in Brazil to enhance production across multiple deepwater fields.
Baker Hughes has customized a range of technologies specifically for Petrobras’ offshore developments. By integrating intelligent completions solutions with conventional upper and lower completions systems, the company will enable remote operations and multizone control, minimizing water and gas breakthroughs while reducing the need for costly interventions.
“Deepwater, high-pressure wells demand an exceptional level of reliability, and our completion technologies have consistently delivered in these challenging environments,” said Amerino Gatti, executive vice president of Oilfield Services & Equipment at Baker Hughes. “Through continuous innovation, rigorous testing, and close collaboration with Petrobras, we have pioneered solutions that support the safe and efficient development of Brazil’s natural resources.”
Under this agreement, Petrobras will deploy Baker Hughes’ newly developed SureCONTROL Premium interval control valve (ICV), engineered to provide enhanced reliability in the high flowrate conditions of Petrobras’ offshore fields. Designed to meet Petrobras’ rigorous standards, this technology allows operators to remotely monitor and adapt to evolving well conditions across multiple zones in real time.
Additionally, Petrobras will utilize a range of Baker Hughes completions technologies, including the SureSENS QPT ELITE downhole gauges, SureSENS B-Annulus monitoring system, SureTREAT chemical injection system, Sur-Set flow control system, Orbit Premium barrier valves, a gas lift system, REACH and DeepShield subsurface safety valves, as well as Premier packers, screens, and a gravel pack system.
Baker Hughes has been instrumental in the development of Brazil’s offshore oil and gas sector for decades, with its localization strategy contributing to the country’s economy and strengthening its energy supply chain.
Deliveries for the project are set to commence in late 2025.
